How are Polyester Lanyards Made?
Even if you have no art or design skills, Lanyard Depot can help! Our staff of artists and designers have years of digital art experience, and are more than happy to assist you in the design process. If you’re not confident in creating your own lanyard design, you can always send us your ideas in the form of written notes or even a small sketch. We even take doodles on a napkin! Once a digital proof is made, we will send you the proof and quote via email. Feel free to respond with any design changes you’d like to see. Once you approve your design and a payment is made, lanyard production begins.
Lanyards are originally a continuous spool of yarn/ribbon. The fabric is then weaved together with a twilling machine until the straps are made. Once your straps are made, they are laid flat, side by side. A layer of glue is added on top to prevent fraying. Finally, art is screen printed onto multiple straps at a time. When the first pass of paint is dried, another pass of paint is screen printed on.
Finally, the lanyards are assembled by sewing them into loops and adding the lanyard components and accessories. For example, a company lanyard may have a break away clip on the back, and a lobster claw clip at the bottom, to clip onto a badge holder.

Our minimum order quantity is 100. In certain rare situations, we can manufacture and sell orders of smaller quantities, but there is a below-minimum fee that often applies and the unit pricing is higher than that at quantity 100. Please contact us for additional details.
Although every lanyard is a little different, since everything we make is 100% custom, our orders typically deliver 10-14 business days after you pay for your order. That said, if you require a quicker turnaround, we will make every effort to accommodate it.
Each lanyard design allows you to choose one imprint or woven thread color at no additional charge. If your design requires more colors, we will happily add them for a small fee. For orders with very complex color schemes, we can even direct you to a different product type, like Dye Sublimated (Heat Transfer) lanyards, which allow for the use of unlimited colors, gradients, and photo reproduction.
